The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Board of Funeral, Cemetery and Consumer Services was established pursuant to statutory changes enacted by the legislature in 2004 and 2005 under Florida Statutes Chapter 497. The board conducts inspections, examinations and investigates complaints to ensure compliance with Chapter 497.  In 2005 the statutory changes abolished both the Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers, which was established by Chapter 497 in 1937, and the Board of Funeral and Cemetery Services. At the time of abolishment both boards were under the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation and the current board is located within the Florida Department of Financial Services.
Summary:     This series consists of primarily of meeting minutes and agendas from the Board of Funeral and Cemetery Services and the Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers which documented the activities, decisions and discussions of the respective boards. This series also includes audits of funeral homes, proposed legislative changes to Florida Statutes Chapter 470 regarding disciplinary action against directors, embalmers and cinerator facilities, and meeting minutes from Probable Cause Panels where violations by and complaints against funeral home directors were reviewed by the Panel.
