Biographical/Historical:     The daughter of famed orator and three-time Presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan, Ruth Bryan Owen of Miami served the Fourth Congressional District as U.S. Representative from March 4, 1929 until 1932. Later she was the American Minister to Denmark (1933-1936) and then an alternate U.S. representative to the Fourth General Assembly of the United Nations in 1949. She died in New York City on July 27, 1954.

    The Pan American Union began in 1890 as the First International Conference of American States in Washington, D.C. In 1910, this organization became the Pan American Union and became the Organization of the American States in 1948.
