Biographical/Historical:     Valparaiso is a city in Okaloosa County, Florida. In the early 1900s, Chicago businessman James E. Plew visited a lumber settlement and, impressed by its potential for development, named it Valparaiso. By 1918, he had established the Valparaiso Development Company, and in 1921 the Florida Legislature granted a municipal charter to the City of Valparaiso.

Summary:     This collection consists primarily of a photo album promoting Valparaiso, Florida, with images taken in the 1920s that depict residences, nature scenes, agriculture, and groups at the Chicago Country Club and shooting range. The collection also includes images of various structures, roads, and nature scenes in other areas of Okaloosa County, including Milton and Dixie Port. In addition, there are images from the 1930s of Jacksonville, Daytona, Rockledge, Sanford, and the Indian River. The State Historical Society of Wisconsin originally collected the images.
