Biographical/Historical:     The 4-H Clubs were youth clubs administered by the United States Department of Agriculture's Cooperative Extension Service, aimed at educating rural youth in agricultural and home making skills. The clubs began when Congress passed the Smith-Lever Act of 1914 that provided funding for agricultural extension services through the USDA. The four Hs stood for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health.

Summary:     This collection contains a variety of materials related to 4-H Clubs and home demonstration in Florida. There are several images of Home Demonstration Club meetings and 4-H Club for Girls short courses at Florida State College for Women (later Florida State University) from 1916 through 1950. These images depict classes, lectures, plays, field trips, off-hours recreation, and several group portraits. There is also a publication regarding Commissioner of Agriculture Doyle Conner's career (1950-1991) and a 17-minute VHS video tape of a trip to Russia entitled, "People to People: Inside Russia."
