Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Department of Revenue was created in 1969 (Laws of Florida, 69-106). Several state agencies or agency functions were transferred into the new department, among them the Comptroller's duties and functions relating to the collection of state taxes, the State Treasure's duties and functions relating to the collection of state revenues, and the State Revenue Commission. The department is responsible for collecting different types of taxes, such as sales and use tax, corporate income tax, documentary stamp tax, etc.  The Florida Department of Revenue operates several program areas, including General Tax Administration, Property Tax, and Child Support Enforcement.
    The State Revenue Commission was established by Chapter 63-253, Laws of Florida (SB 400, 1963) to consolidate collection of certain revenues under a single cabinet board.  The Commission consisted of the governor, secretary of state, comptroller, state treasurer, attorney general, commissioner of agriculture, and state superintendent of public instruction and was given responsibility for "regulating, conrolling and administering all revenue laws and performing all other duties now vested in the state comptroller [and] regulating, controlling and administerating the duties now vested in the secretary of state relative to the capital stock tax collection..."
Summary:     This series consists of two volumes of minutes of the Department of Revenue and its predecessor, the State Revenue Commission.  The volumes record resolutions and other official actions such as approval of rule amendments; granting the executive director authority to request an attorney general opinion; registering support for or objection to proposed federal legislation; approval of departmental reorganization; approval of county tax valuations; and approval of final actions on Final Orders of the department.  Resolutions and minutes for each convened meeting are signed by the governor and the executive director.
