The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     Columba Bush, wife of Governor John Ellis "Jeb" Bush, was born Columba Garnica Gallo in Leon, Guanajato, Mexico on August 17, 1953. She and Jeb Bush met in Leon, Mexico in 1971 while he was teaching English as part of an exchange program sponsored by his school, Phillips Academy of Andover, Massachusetts. They were married on February 23, 1974, in Austin, Texas and have three children: George, Noelle and John Ellis, Jr.

    While First Lady, Columba Bush dedicated  her time and energy to promoting and supporting a variety of issues, particularly appreciation of the arts, arts education, and prevention of substance abuse and domestic violence.  In 2000, Mrs. Bush started the Arts Recognition Program, which honors high school seniors who have demonstrated exemplary talents in music, media, dance, theater or visual arts.  She co-founded the Children's Cultural Education fund of the Ballet Folklorico, which raised money for the national dance troupe of Mexico.  She served as spokesperson and member of the Informed Families of Florida, a non-profit organization involved in educating families on the perils of drug abuse.  She also served a member of the Governors' Spouses Leadership Forum which is dedicated to the reduction of youth alcohol abuse.

Summary:     This series consists of primarily of speeches and remarks made by First Lady Columba Bush, along with a small number of public service announcements, concerning a wide variety of issues and topics,  including her areas of particular interest: appreciation of the arts, arts education, and prevention of substance abuse and domestic violence.
