The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Department of Community Affairs was created in 1969 (Ch. 69-106, Laws of Florida).  It was reorganized as the Department of Veterans' and Community Affairs in 1980 (Ch. 80-61, Laws).  In 1982, it was renamed the Department of Community Affairs and its veterans' affairs division was transferred to the Department of Administration (Ch. 82-387, Laws).  It is responsible for programs related to regional planning and growth management; housing and community development; disaster preparedness and emergency management; building codes and standards; and regional planning councils.
    Florida Communities Trust (FCT) is a state land acquisition grant program that provides funding to local governments and eligible non-profit environmental organizations for acquisition of community-based parks, open space and greenways that further outdoor recreation and natural resource protection needs identified in local government comprehensive plans.  The FCT has a six-member governing board chaired by the Secretary of the Department of Community Affairs.  The other members include the Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection and four public members appointed by the Governor.


Summary:     This series documents the official meetings of the Governing Board of the Florida Communities Trust.  The series consists of official transcribed board meeting minutes, meeting agendas, and background materials as well as associated correspondence relating to community growth, growth management and regional planning projects and/or grants under consideration by the Department of Community Affairs from numerous communities/counties throughout Florida.
