Biographical/Historical:     Magnolia Springs was a tourist attraction in Clay County, Florida, just south of Jacksonville. Built in the late 19th century, the Magnolia Springs Resort Hotel catered to wealthy northern tourists and offered such novel amenities as electricity and a hydraulic elevator, and provided private access to a golf course, mineral springs, dark room, indoor pool, and the hotel owner's steam launch for voyages up Governor's Creek.

The hotel's success floundered by World War I, unable to compete with the associated growth in industry. It remained vacant for a few years until it became the Florida Military Academy. However, the hotel burned down shortly after, in 1923.

Summary:     This collection consists of photographs of Magnolia Springs in Clay County, Florida, which document the various attractions and recreational activities offered there. The images include the springs, boat docks, hotel, and railroad depot. Also included is an image of Florida business leader Edward Ball from November 1952.
