The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     Until its transfer to the Executive Office of the Governor under the Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development in fiscal year 2004-2005, the Office of International Affairs resided under the Department of State as  Florida's designated organization to enhance and coordinate foreign affairs and diplomacy, promote international cultural and educational exchanges, and encourage international economic development.  The office contributed an international perspective to the state's development efforts by serving on Enterprise Florida’s Board of Directors and the International Trade and Economic Development Board.

Summary:     Electronic files of Undersecretary of State for International Affairs Hugh Simon document initiatives, activities, and priorities of the Department of State's Office of International Affairs.  The records include speeches and speech outlines for Secretary of State Katherine Harris, and Department of State press releases, regarding international trade and economic development agreements and activities; documentation of development of specific activities and initiatives such as the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) and plans for annual International Days activities; foreign affairs "bullet points" and policy documents; plans for receiving foreign dignitaries and for travel to other countries to promote economic development, formalize trade and other partnership agreements, and participate in trade/economic development conferences and forums; and briefing documents for Secretary Harris' foreign visits, including itineraries and overviews of each country/region's outlook, domestic politics, international relations and trade, policy trends, economic growth, and culture.
