Summary:     The series contains the official incoming correspondence of Florida's governors from 1857 to 1888. The records reflect the official, constitutional, and political duties of the Office of Governor.  The series includes the incoming correspondence of Governors Madison S. Perry (1857-1861); John Milton (1861-1865); David S. Walker (1865-1868); Harrison Reed (1868-1873); Ossian B. Hart (1873-1874); M. L. Stearns (1874-1877); George F. Drew (1877-1881); William D. Bloxham (1881-1885); and Edward A. Perry (1885-1889).  The series also contains the records of William H. Gleason (1868), who proclaimed himself Governor during the first impeachment attempt against Harrison Reed, and Samuel T. Day (1872), who served as ipso facto governor during the second impeachment attempt against Reed.
    Series contains excellent resources on Reconstruction Florida, including a letter from Governor Harrison Reed regarding getting Florida back into the Union.
