Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Interagency Food and Nutrition Committee was established in 1989 to coordinate efforts to provide effective nutrition and food safety programs and services to the public.  Originally, there were five participating agencies;  the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, the Department of Education, the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Florida Cooperative Extension, and the Department of Elder Affairs.  By 1998, there were six participating agencies including the Department of Children and Families.  Membership of the Committee includes representatives from each participating agency who meet annually.  Agency leadership rotates each fiscal year.
    The Subcommittee for Membership and Procedures was created on September 24, 1998 and records, maintains, and distributes minutes, membership lists, and committee approved procedures.  Duties of the Subcommittee were handled by the Department of Education until 1998 when rotation of leadership began.  Participating programs include but are not limited to: the Department of Agriculture's Agriculture in the Classsroom, Food Distribution, and Food Technology Laboratory; the Department of Children and Families' Food Stamp and Family Nutrition Program; the Department of Education's National School Lunch, Breakfast, and Milk programs; and the Department of Elder Affairs' Adult Care Food and Meals on Wheels programs.
Summary:     This series includes minutes of committee meetings, reports, correspondence, and memoranda documenting the interagency organization's efforts to bring together resources and personnel from the five participating agencies to better serve the public on a local and state level.  Records in this series provide evidence of various educational food and nutrition programs in Florida.  In addition, records in this series document organizational and personnel changes in the Committee.
