Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Park Service was originally created in 1935 as the Board of Parks and Historic Memorials (Chapter 17025, Laws of Florida) and administered within the Board of Forestry. The Park Service's first eight parks were designed and built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1949, the Park Service became an independent agency, the Board of Parks and Historic Memorials (Ch. 25353, Laws). Its purpose was to administer and control the operation and development of the state parks and historic sites of Florida. In 1969, the Board was merged with the Outdoor Recreational Development Council (Ch. 63-36, Laws) to form the Division of Recreation and Parks (Ch. 69-106, Laws) under the Department of Natural Resources. The Division eventually moved to the newly created Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) in 1993 (Ch. 93-213, Laws).

The Florida Folk Festival is an annual festival celebrating Florida's diverse music, food, arts, and folk cultures. It began in 1953 in White Springs by the Florida Federation of Music Clubs and the Stephen Foster Memorial Commission. In 1979, the newly created Florida Folklife Program took over administration of the festival, while the Florida Park Service assumed control of the Stephen Foster Memorial (re-christened the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park).  In 2002, the management of the festival was transferred to the Florida Park Service.

Summary:     This series consists of performance logs and audio recordings of Florida Folk Festivals performances recorded and indexed by the Florida Park Service. The recordings cover the main/Amphitheater stage, Folklife Stage and the Old Marble Stage. Supporting documentation is also included, such as performance log sheets created at the time of the recordings, information about performers, and performer release forms. Not transferred to the Archives because they were misplaced or not properly recorded are Folklife Stage recordings for 2002; Amphitheater recordings for the 2013 Friday and Sunday performances (May 24 and May 26); Amphiteater recordings for the 2015 Friday performances; Old Marble Stage recordings for the 2015 Saturday performances; and scattered individual recordings.
