Biographical/Historical:     George Stanton Taff (1924-2000) was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida, to Angus Beaty Taff and Mary Louvenia Tucker. He was  In 1942, he joined the Marine Corps and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. In 1953, George married Betty Salley Evans of West Palm Beach, Florida. In 1958, Taff ran for an won election to the Tallahassee City Commission, and afterwards served two terms as the city's mayor. Taff was also a prominent timber executive and banker.

Summary:     This collection consists primarily of three scrapbooks kept by the Taff family of Tallahassee, Florida. The scrapbooks include correspondence, photographs, and newspaper clippings. Most of the materials document the activities of George S. Taff as Tallahassee Mayor and City Commissioner, and growth and development in and around the City of Tallahassee. The collection also includes two hand-tinted oblique aerial photographs of Tallahassee.
