The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Park Service was created in 1935 under the Board of Forestry (Chapter 17025, Laws of Florida).  It was responsible for the development and operation of Florida's state parks.  Its duties were transferred to the Board of Parks and Historic Memorials in 1949 (Ch. 25353, Laws).  In 1969, the Board of Parks and Historic Memorials and the Outdoor Recreational Development Council were merged into a Division of Recreation and Parks, within the new Department of Natural Resources (Ch. 69-106, Laws).  The Division's duties were to preserve, manage, protect, and regulate all parks and recreational areas which were held by the state of Florida.  In 1993, the Department of Natural Resources merged with the Department of Environmental Regulation to form the new Department of Environmental Protection (Ch. 93-213, Laws).
Summary:     This series contains correspondence documenting park activities and operations and providing information on the parks' historical and natural resources, park activities and daily operational procedures.  Records include monthly reports, personal contact reports, correspondence with board members, director's office memoranda, and correspondence with other state agencies and state parks.  Records provide information on programs offered at the parks, visitor tabulations, camping procedures/regulations, concessionaire reports, monthly activities, training programs/workshops, personnel programs, law enforcement procedures and training, employment opportunities/procedures, resource management, budget and financial information, safety inspections, environmental concerns (ecological burnings and asbestos identification/removal),  accessibility, crisis and incident management, emergency plans, energy consumption, and building design standards.
