Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Park Service was created in 1935 under the Board of Forestry (Chapter 17025, Laws of Florida).  It was responsible for the development and operation of Florida's state parks.  Its duties were transferred to the Board of Parks and Historic Memorials in 1949 (Ch. 25353, Laws).  In 1969, the Board of Parks and Historic Memorials and the Outdoor Recreational Development Council were merged in a Division of Recreation  and Parks within the new  Department of Natural Resources (Ch. 69-106, Laws).  The Division's duties were to preserve, manage, protect, and regulate all parks and recreational areas which were held by the State of Florida.  In 1993, the Department of Natural Resorces merged with the Department of Environmental Regulation to form the new Department of Environmental Protection (CH. 93-213, Laws).
Summary:     This series documents the state's administration and operation of Cape St. George.  The files include general correspondence; budget correspondence; fiscal contracts; management plan correspondence; construction and/or repair work orders; purchase orders and requisitions; property transfers; resource management plans such as wildlife observations, sea turtle workshops, hunting, solid waste disposal and animal removal procedures; emergency protection plans such as fire, law enforcement, storm (hurricane) and vandalism damage assessments, and encroachments; visitor services; maintenance procedures for general park maintenance, signage, animals, vehicles, and equipment; and other miscellaneous correspondence.  The series also includes maps, newspaper clippings, photographs, slides, and monographs.
