Biographical/Historical:     Allen Covington Morris began compling photographs of Florida for his book, The Florida Handbook during the late 1940s and discovered that historical images of Florida were difficult to acquire.  Looking for illustrations he realized that, although there were a few collections of photos of specific areas, no one was preserving historical images for the whole state. He used his newspaper and Florida industries connections to request donations of historical images. The collection grew and in 1952 found a home at the Florida State University Library. His second wife, Joan Morris became the photographic archivist and curator of the collection in 1970, when the demands of the Clerk's Office prohibited Morris from continuing in that position. In 1982 the collection moved to the Florida State Archives.
