The Northwood Mall opened in Tallahassee, Florida, in September 1969. It was the first indoor mall in Tallahassee, comprising 36 stores. It expanded through the 1970s to more than 60 stores and restaurants, including Mendelson's department store, Eckerd Drugs, Orange Julius, Rheinauers clothing, Silver Slipper restaurant, and cinemas. In 1978, the Leon County Library opened at the mall. The Northwood Mall closed in 1986.

This collection contains color photographs of the Northwood Mall in Tallahassee, Florida, during its grand opening in September 1969. The photographs document several of the stores on the upstairs floor as well as the ribbon cutting ceremony outside the mall's entrance. The images depict people window shopping, eating at Hubies Hamburgers, and walking in the mall. One image depicts a man posing with store window mannequins. Some of the businesses included in these images are Angela Beauty Salon, Music Hall, Squire Ltd., Tux and Ties Rental and Sales, the Storkette, Kirks, Colony, Strickland's Shoes, Stafford Jewelers, Gilberg's Fabrics, Mendelson's, Millers, JByron, Eckerd Drugs, Du Bey's Bookland, Turner's, Rheinauers, and Little Folks.
