The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. Biographical/Historical:     Margaret "Maggie" McMillen Adams, her husband Drew and their son Sam established the Adams Studio in Tallahassee, Florida, during the early part of the twentieth century. Maggie came from a family of photographers in Ohio, where her family started a tourist business called "Winter Travel" and they often traveled together in a covered wagon from Ohio to Tallahassee before eventually deciding to move to Tallahassee. There, Maggie met Wakulla County photographer Drew Adams and they married in 1900. At the Adams Studio, Maggie was responsible for the dark room work and Drew took photographs and portraits while their son, Sam, also took photographs and traveled outside the studio to take portraits of students at various schools and at Florida State College for Women.

Summary:     This collection contains photographs taken and printed by the Adams Family of Tallahassee, Florida, of various people and buildings in the city. There are several unidentified images of young children and female students from the Florida State College for Women. The collection also contains images of the Florida Supreme Court and its Justices, images of buildings on the Florida State College for Women campus, the Armory and State Theater on North Monroe Street, and many other city sites and buildings. Also included is the Fifteenth Annual Report of the City of Tallahassee of 1935, which details the city's budget, administration, and development plans.
