Biographical/Historical:     Talmadge L. Buller served as a Private First Class of Company C, 124th Infantry of the 31st Infantry Division during World War II. During his tour of duty, Buller fought in the Battle of Colgan Woods in the Philippine Islands, which lasted from May 5 to May 12, 1945. During this battle, the 31st Infantry suffered more than 121 casualties. Buller received a gunshot wound to his arm on May 7 but not taken to a hospital until May 10. Buller remained in service until his discharge from the Army on May 27, 1946. He received the Purple Heart for his participation during this battle.

Summary:     This collection contains reminiscences of the events experienced by Private First-Class Talmadge L. Buller during the Battle of Colgan Woods in the Philippines in World War II. Buller wrote the paper in 1999 and calls the battle "possibly the most bloody seven-day battle of the entire 31st Division in the war in the Pacific." The paper provides a brief introduction and history of the battle, in which Buller argues that although there were heavy casualties during the Battle of Colgan Woods, the battle itself was of no strategic value. The information Buller provides in his reminiscences comes from his own research, recollections, and through conversations with fellow soldiers at reunions. Buller provides a detailed account of his fellow soldiers and officers and the difficult events they faced between May 5 and May 12, 1945.
