Biographical/Historical:     Jan H. Johannes was born in Maryland in 1940 and moved to Hillard (Nassau County), Florida, in 1966.  He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and later became an air traffic control specialist for the Federal Aviation Administration. Johannes was also interested in local history and served as the first president of the Nassau Historical Society. In 1976, he edited and published "Yesterday's Reflections, Nassau County, Florida: A Pictorial History."

Summary:     This collection contains photographic negatives of people and buildings in Nassau County, Florida.  Jan H. Johannes included many of the images in his book, "Yesterday's Reflections, Nassau County, Florida: A Pictorial History." The Florida Mirror, a newspaper in Fernandina, Florida, founded in the early 1800s, took most of the photographs. The images depict various Nassau County families, organizations, businesses, and schools. Many of the negatives have identification cards attached to them. The oversized negatives include maps and layouts of pages from "Yesterday's Reflections."
