Biographical/Historical:     Coconut Grove is a community located on Biscayne Bay, five miles south of downtown Miami. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, it was a haven for wealthy Northern winter residents.

Royal Palm State Park was a privately-run park in South Florida near Homestead. Created in 1915 by the Florida Federation of Women's Clubs (FFWC), Royal Palm State Park is now part of the Everglades National Park. May Mann Jennings, wife of Governor William Jennings and president of the FFWC, was the driving force behind the park's creation. In 1915, the Florida State Legislature gave a one-time donation of $1,000 and bestowed the name Royal Palm State Park. Despite the name, the park was never a property within the Florida Park Service, which was established in 1935. In 1948, the FFWC donated Royal Palm State Park to the National Park Service.

Summary:     This collection consists of several photographic postcards of the Coconut Grove area in the 1930s. These postcards include images of Royal Palm State Park, various residences, and some nature scenes. There are also newspaper clippings from 1934 about the death of William Matheson, a prominent Coconut Grove resident. Also included is a brochure for Royal Palm State Park. Finally, there is one postcard that depicts two Seminole people walking down a road in South Florida.
