The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     In accordance with the State Constitution (Article X, Section 13, 1968), the state and its agencies and subdivisions are liable for tort claims.  When a judgment in excess of an amount specified by law is rendered, these amounts must be reported to the Legislature, and may be paid only by an act of the Legislature (F.S. 768.28(5).  Claim or relief bills are requests for appropriations to compensate claimants for personal injury or property damage based on excessive judgment claims or equitable claims filed without an underlying excess judgment.  All claim bills are first referred to a Senate Special Master on Claims who conducts a hearing in accordance with the Rules of the Senate.
Summary:     This series contains the records of various claims as presented to the Senate General Counsel sitting as Special Master. The Special Master reviewed all the evidence generated and presented to support the claim and made recommendations to the Legislature.
