Biographical/Historical:     Emmett Wilson (1882-1918) was a United States Representative from Pensacola from 1913 to 1917. Born in Belize, British Honduras, his family moved to Chipley, Florida, soon after his birth. Wilson's early jobs included a railroad telegrapher and a stenographer. In 1904 he graduated from Stetson University's Law Department in DeLand and passed the bar exam the same year. He practiced law in Marianna and Pensacola before his 1907 appointment as Assistant United States Attorney for the North District of Florida, and then U.S. Attorney for the same district from October 1907 until March 1909. In 1913, Wilson ran for and won a seat as a Democrat to the 63rd and 64th Congresses (March 4, 1913-March 3, 1917). After losing his Congressional seat in 1916, Wilson resumed his law practice in Pensacola, where he died on May 29, 1918.

Summary:     The single-item collection contains a black and white portrait of U.S. Representative Emmett Wilson. The portrait is undated but was probably taken in 1913 when he won election into the 63rd Congress.
