Biographical/Historical:     In 1876, Henry DeLand of New York founded the city of DeLand in Volusia County, less than 25 miles inland from Florida's east coast. Prior to incorporation, the community's original settler Captain John Rich had called it Persimmon Hollow. In 1886, the Jacksonville, Tampa, and Key West Rail Line became the first rail line to connect with DeLand.

Across the Florida peninsula from DeLand is Seminole, a city in Pinellas County located west of Tampa between Largo and St. Petersburg. Although whites first settled in Seminole in the mid-19th century, the community was primarily an agricultural area into the 1940s, and the city was not incorporated until 1970.

Summary:     This collection consists of two black and white photographs: one of an Atlantic Coastline Railroad passenger train at the DeLand Junction depot, circa 1915; and one of the commercial district in Seminole, Florida, in 1920.
