Biographical/Historical:     Henry D. DeGrove, Jr., was born in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1895 to the prominent DeGrove family in the Duval County area. DeGrove's uncle, William DeGrove, served on the Florida Legislature from 1910 to 1917. His father, Henry DeGrove, Sr., was a ship captain and commanded several steamships in the North Florida area during the turn of the century. DeGrove, Jr, took photographs of some of the steamboats in the area during this time. His son, Henry DeGrove, III., wrote "A History of the DeGrove Family," published in 1989.
Summary:     This collection contains eight photographs taken by Henry DeGrove, Jr., of various sites in Florida. Images include the steamboat "Gertrude" transporting passengers and wood on the Chattahoochee River, and various boarding houses in Palatka and Tallahassee, Florida.
