The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Agency for Health Care Administration was established in 1992 (Ch. 92-33, Laws).  It administers the state's medicaid program, licenses and regulates health care facilities and health maintenance organizations, addresses complaints for the state's health care practitioners, and publishes health care data and statistics.  In 2000 (Ch. 2000-305, Laws) it was created as a Department.

    The Florida Health Care Purchasing Cooperative, Inc. (FHPC), was created in November 1991 (Chapter 408.001, F.S.) as a private not-for-profit, 501(c)3 organization.  The first headquarters for FHPC was established in Tallahassee and James J. Bracher was the Executive Director from 1991 through 1993.  In 1994, Linda H. Patterson was appointed Executive Director, a position she held until the repeal in 2000.  The organization was transferred from Tallahassee to Saint Augustine in 1995. 

    The Florida Health Care Purchasing Cooperative  operated subject to the supervision and approval of a board of directors consisting of the Director of the Agency for Health Care Administration;  the Deputy Director of the Division of State Health Purchasing of the Agency for Health Care  Administration;  the Assistant Secretary for Health Services of the Department of Corrections; two persons who are responsible for purchasing health benefits for municipal employees and  who are appointed by the Florida League of Cities; a person who is responsible for county employees or health care services for county clients and  who is appointed by the Florida Association of Counties;  a  person who is responsible for purchasing health care benefits for school district employees and who is appointed by the Florida Association of School Administrators.  Appointments were for two years and  reappointment was allowed.

    The Florida Health Care Purchasing Cooperative, Inc. (Chapter 408.001, F.S.) was repealed on December 31, 2000 by (Ch. 2000-305, Laws).
Summary:     This series consists primarily of minutes, but also contains market strategies, program developments records, membership records, requests for proposals, correspondence and  memoranda, policies and procedures, and operational plans.  The records document the Cooperative's efforts in encouraging cooperative purchasing (pooling) of health care services to help local governments save money.
