The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     Pursuant to Chapters 119 and 257, Florida Statutes, the Division of Library and Information Services director's office is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the statewide program of library services, library services development and public records management.  Within the Florida Department of State, the Division provides technical and educational assistance, financial aid, and cooperative services. The Division Director also serves as Secretary to the Library Council and Deputy Interstate Library Compact Administrator.

Summary:     This series contains correspondence files from the Director's Office for the Division of Library and Information Services.  Much of the material concerns library administration and program development, including the 1989 creation of a new Florida Folklife Program plan.  Within the Director's reading files are various national and international information requests on Florida, state library programs, and government policies.  The files also document Division-specific issues such as internal audits and library program surveys.  Also included is miscellaneous correspondence concerning employee issues, like the mid-1980s reorganization of state employee parking spaces, and Division of Historical Resources programs conducted for the Division through the Musuem of Florida History.
