Summary:     The series contains trademarks recorded by the Secretary of State from 1902 to 1973.  Individual trademark files generally include the application for registration and a copy of the certificate of registration issued by the Secretary of State.  A record of assignment of rights, notification of change of corporate name of the registrant, an original or facsimile copy of the trademark logo, and correspondence pertaining to the use of the mark may also be included.
The trademark files are mainly grouped by "old series" and "new series."  The "old series" contains trademarks issued prior to the 1957 revision of the statutes governing trademarks.  The "new series" contains trademarks issued after the 1957 revision.  "Old" trademarks that were renewed under the new statute were renumbered to fit into the "new" sequence.  However, these renumbered trademarks are boxed separately from the regular sequence.  The series also contains index cards of canceled trademarks from 1902 through 1973 and five bound volumes (1902-1932) which contain duplicate copies of trademark registrations.
