Biographical/Historical:     Florida's statehood election was on May 26, 1845, two months after the proclamation of statehood, to choose a governor, a U.S. Congressman, and state-level representatives. This was the first election held after Florida was admitted to the Union. Those allowed to vote were all free white males over the age of twenty-one, citizens of the United States, residents of Florida, and were enrolled in the militia or exempt by law from military duty. Two copies were made of the election returns: one for the Committee of the Constitutional Convention, and the other for Secretary of the Territory.

Summary:     The series contains the original returns from the 1845 statehood election. The returns document the name of each voter, and the county and precinct in which they voted. Included in the returns are a few militia rolls that election officials used to identify voters.
