Biographical/Historical:     The Governor's Drug and Crime Policy Office was organized for the purpose of staffing the Drug Policy Task Force, created by executive order by Governor Bob Martinez on June 22, 1988.  The mission of the Task Force was "to identify, examine, select, or develop, recommend or implement, drug control policies and strategies to more effectively combat illegal drugs and the crimes associated with drug trafficking."  The Drug and Crime Policy Office served as the statewide coordinating agency for anti-drug programs.  The Office received federal grant funding through the Department of Community Affairs.  The Office was dissolved in 1990.
Summary:     This series contains the records of the Governor's Drug and Crime Policy Office.  These records document the functions of the Office, which was organized to staff the Drug Policy Task Force.
    The records in the series include the correspondence and trip files of Drug Policy Advisor, Debbie Haben, who served as director of the Office and chaired the Task Force; information on such programs as crime and drug-free school zones, the drug-free workplace, and drop out prevention; legislative materials; reading materials on such topics as drug treatment programs, children of parents with substance abuse disorder, and epidemiology; funding requests; and administrative convenience files.
