Biographical/Historical:     In 1957, the Florida Legislature created the Division of Child Training Schools under the Board of Commissioners of State Institutions (Chapter 57-317, Laws of Florida). The division had supervisory and protective care, custody and control of all minor offenders and of the buildings, grounds and all other property of, and matters concerning, the state's juvenile correctional and training institutions. Arthur G. Dozier was the division's first director. In 196 7 its name changed to the Division of Youth Services (Ch. 67-46, Laws).

Summary:     This series contains records relating to operations of the various state-administered schools for juvenile offenders. Types of records include operating files, financial records and correspondence. There are three years (1964-1966) of correspondence between the Director of the Division of Child Training Schools, Arthur G. Dozier, and the superintendents of the Florida School for Boys campuses in Marianna and Okeechobee; and the Florida School for Girls campuses in Ocala and Forest Hills.
