Biographical/Historical:     Lake Butler is the county seat of Union County in North Central Florida. The Mount Zion Primitive Baptist Church at Lake Butler held its first service in 1844, although it did not become constituted until 1847. Its first church building was a log structure built between 1844 and 1847. Its first pastor was Elder Elias Knight. The church is a member of the Suwannee Association of Primitive Baptist Faith and Order.

Summary:     This collection consists of three volumes documenting congregational meetings of the Mount Zion Primitive Baptist Church from its founding in 1847 through 1920, with a few miscellaneous documents from later dates. The entries primarily discuss routine matters such as receiving new members, baptisms, contacts with other churches, and occasional expulsions for causes such as adultery, fornication, non-attendance, or "tattling." The volumes also contain a few scattered membership rolls providing information such as date received by baptism or letter, date dismissed by letter, date excommunicated, date restored, date died, and remarks (e.g. "turned out for general disorder").

Volume 2 also includes meeting records dating 1869-1871 of the Antioch (Bradford County) Primitive Baptist Church, which merged with the Mount Zion Church in 1871.
