	Biographical/Historical:	Newberry is a city in Alachua County, Florida, developed as a mining town in the 1880s. Originally named Newton, the town built its first post office in March 1894. Later that year, Newton changed its name to Newberry after Newberry, South Carolina. Phosphate mining was its primary industry, and it was the southern terminus for the Jacksonville and Southern Railway.
	Summary:	The collection contains black-and-white images of Newberry, Florida, and its environs that form a portrait of small town life in rural Central Florida from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century, depicting the business, industry, and people of Alachua County. Included are images of street scenes, schools, businesses, and families.
