Biographical/Historical:     Robert Gamble, a pioneer in the ice manufacturing business, began the Middle Florida Ice Company, headquartered in Tallahassee, in 1894. Soon after the business incorporated in 1904, Gamble sold his share in the company to his partner, Lewis M. Lively.

Lewis M. Lively was a businessman and landowner in Tallahassee. He became president of the company and in 1945 changed the name to Lively Properties, Inc. Soon thereafter, the company merged with The Tallahassee Coca-Cola Bottling Company in September 1945. As part of this agreement, Lively included property that his family was sharecropping in northeast Leon County.

Summary:     This collection consists of records of the Tallahassee Coca-Cola Bottling Company and its predecessor companies: Lively Properties, Inc. and Middle Florida Ice Company. The collection includes business records (1904-1949) and a sharecropper's journal (1945-1955). The business records include the bylaws, letters of incorporation, board of directors' minutes, and a merger agreement. Most of these documents concern Lively Properties, Inc. prior to its merger with the Tallahassee Coca-Cola Bottling Company.

The sharecropper's journal accounts for activities on the land obtained from Lively Properties, Inc. during the Tallahassee Coca-Cola Bottling Company merger. The journal includes recordings of rent collections, equipment and feed purchases as well as planting, plowing and livestock inoculation calendars.
