Biographical/Historical:     Washington Mackey Ives (1843-1925) was born in St. Augustine, Florida. His family moved to the Lake City area (Columbia County) in 1845. Ives enlisted into the Fourth Florida Infantry Regiment in the spring of 1862. He served in that unit for the remainder of the Civil War and rose to the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major. After the war he returned to Lake City, where he began practicing law. Ives was elected Mayor of Lake City in 1875 and a County Judge in Columbia County in 1877. He also served as a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1885.

Summary:     This collection contains the legal account ledger of Washington Ives documenting his private legal practice in Lake City, Florida. The ledger lists the names of his clients, legal services rendered, fees charged or debits, and payments received or credits. It also contains information on the disposition of personal estates, discussions of court cases, and newspaper clippings regarding his election to the Constitutional Convention of 1885.
