The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical: The Information Resource Commission was created in 1983 by Chapter Law 83-92 (HB 179).  The membership consisted of the Governor and the Cabinet, with an appointed executive director. The purpose of the Commission was to provide overall leadershipand coordination of information resources management within state government.  The powers and duties of the Commission included requiring all departments to report the use of information technology, the impact of those resources on the duties and functions of the department, the cost incurred, the information produced, and the procedures followed in obtaining information technology resources.  The Commission was abolished in 1997 by Chapter Law 97-286 (SB 940), and most of its duties were assumed by the State Technology Council and the State Technology Office.
Summary:     This series contains financial statements and correspondence to and from the Information Resource Commission (IRC) regarding resource planning and budgeting for various agencies of state government.  Included are legislative budget requests and IRC budget recommendations, as well as financial summaries.
    While part of the material deals with budgets for fiscal years 1990-1998, a portion concerns Critical Function Surveys conducted within state agencies and the responses to those surveys.  The surveys were designed to assist state agencies in establishing criteria for determining critical governmental functions.
    Also of interest is the 1997-98 Information Resources Management budget recommendation booklet which addresses the Year 2000 computer problem.
