Biographical/Historical:   The Information Resource Commission was created in 1983 by Chapter Law 83-92 (HB 179).  The membership consisted of the Governor and the Cabinet, with an appointed executive director. The purpose of the Commission was to provide overall leadershipand coordination of information resources management within state government.  The powers and duties of the Commission included requiring all departments to report the use of information technology, the impact of those resources on the duties and functions of the department, the cost incurred, the information produced, and the procedures followed in obtaining information technology resources.  The Commission was abolished in 1997 by Chapter Law 97-286 (SB 940), and most of its duties were assumed by the State Technology Council and the State Technology Office.
Summary:   This series contains the baseline assessment reports from the various state data centers and the Data Center Consolidation Study. Included are the Request for Proposals by the Information Resource Commission and the proposals from various computer consulting firms, including Compass America, IBM, Sybase, Anderson Consulting, Lockheed-Martin, Unisys, and KPMG Peat Marwick.  Compass America was awarded the baseline assessment bid and the consolidation study.
The data center analysis of the individual state data centers is of particular interest, especially when the data center disagrees with the conclusions made by Compass America.  Also of interest is the Information Resource Commission report to the Legislature.
