The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical: The Information Resource Commission was created in 1983 by Chapter Law 83-92 (HB 179).  The membership consisted of the Governor and the Cabinet, with an appointed executive director. The purpose of the Commission was to provide overall leadershipand coordination of information resources management within state government.  The powers and duties of the Commission included requiring all departments to report the use of information technology, the impact of those resources on the duties and functions of the department, the cost incurred, the information produced, and the procedures followed in obtaining information technology resources.  The Commission was abolished in 1977 by Chapter Law 97-286 (SB 940), and most of its duties were assumed by the State Technology Council and the State Technology Office.
Summary:   This series contains correspondence to and from the Information Resource Commission regarding centralized management and coordination of state policies relating to information resources. In addition, there is also correspondence regarding the evaluation, assessment, and consolidation of state data centers along with correspondence regarding information security.  While the earliest correspondence dates from 1984, the majority of the material is from the 1993 to 1995 time frame.  Of particular interest is the correspondence which deals with the assessment and consolidation of state data centers and the cooperation or lack of cooperation the Commission had with various state agencies.
