Biographical/Historical:     William Alonzo Register, Jr. (1906-1998) owned a naval stores business at Sixmile Pond (also called Lutterloh) and at Spring Hill in Leon County, Florida. His father, also named William Alonzo, started him in this business in 1927. His father bought half interest with T.J. Chasen from the J.D. Trawick Company, the first turpentine business in Leon County. The younger Register and Chasen remained partners until 1946, when they divided the business. Register operated the Register Turpentine Farm at Sixmile Pond while Chasen operated Spring Hill.

Summary:     This collection consists of William Alonzo Register's oral history, conducted by Clifton Paisley on January 28, 1978. In the interview, Register discusses his naval stores business at Sixmile Pond (also called Lutterloh) and Spring Hill in Leon County. He explains his involvement in the business and describes in detail the turpentine process. In addition, he describes the use of convict labor in the turpentine camp and tells the names and locations of the other naval stores operators in the surrounding Leon County area.
