The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Florida State Commission on Hispanic Affairs, within the Executive Office of the Governor, was created in 1977 (Ch. 77-233, Laws) as the Commission on the Spanish Speaking Populace of Florida. The Commission gained its current title in 1978 (Ch. 78-297, Laws). It is charged with studying the problems and needs of those citizens who predominantly speak the Spanish language, including those related to education, social services and commerce, and cultural and artistic.
Summary:     This series contains the records of the Commission on the Spanish Speaking Populace (1977-1978), and it successor agency, the Florida State Commission on Hispanic Affairs (1979-1989).  The records include general correspondence files, subject files, meeting files, publications, and cassette tapes of public hearings.
