Biographical/Historical:     Doyle E. Carlton, Jr. (1922-2003) was a Florida State Senator in the 1950s. In 1960, he lost the gubernatorial election to Farris Bryant. Carlton represented the 27th District (DeSoto, Glades, and Hardee counties) in the State Senate from 1953 to 1959. Born in Tampa, he was the son of Florida's 25th governor, Doyle E. Carlton, Sr.

Summary:     The collection contains the 1960 gubernatorial campaign files of Doyle E. Carlton, Jr. It includes correspondence, press releases, newsletters, memoranda, lists of campaign managers and contact people, and newspaper clippings. There are also some files about the 1960 presidential race between Nixon/Lodge and Kennedy/Johnson in Florida.
