Biographical/Historical:     Henry Eastman Bennett (1873-1941) was born in Buffalo, New York. He received his degrees from Peabody Normal College and the University of Chicago. From 1891 to 1906, Bennett held various teaching and administrative positions in public schools and colleges in Florida, including Dean of the Normal Department at the University of Florida. During this time, Bennett co-authored with Caroline Mays Brevard a book on the history and government of Florida, which American Book Company published in 1904. From 1907 to 1925, he was a professor of education and philosophy at the College of William and Mary in Virginia.

Summary:     The collection contains the professional papers of Henry Eastman Bennett. The papers include correspondence, speeches, documents, photographs, and news clippings related to Bennett's career as an educator in Florida. It also contains correspondence and business records between Bennett and his co-author, Caroline E. Brevard and their publisher, American Book Company, regarding the publication of "History and Civil Government of Florida" in 1904.
