Forrest Granger (1912-1993) was a local Tallahassee photographer. During the early years of his journalism career, Granger worked on the copy desk of the Atlanta Constitution, a major newspaper in Atlanta, Georgia. He and his wife Virginia moved to Tallahassee in 1944 after Granger's work for the Army Navy Publishing Company photographing divisions and training sites for yearbooks that soldiers and sailors could send home. He opened one of Tallahassee's first commercial photography studios.
Summary:
This collection consists of approximately 1,680 black-and-white photographs of Tallahassee area people and scenes, primarily from the 1940s and 1950s. The collection includes excellent documentation of the administrations of Governors Millard Caldwell, Fuller Warren, Dan McCarty, Charley Johns, and LeRoy Collins. Among other subjects photographed by Granger are the Duke and Duchess of Windsor during their 1952 visit to Tallahassee, gubernatorial inaugurations, parades, Florida State University, Florida A&M University, government buildings and institutions, street scenes, churches, commercial buildings, and regional scenes.
