Biographical/Historical:     William C. Lazarus served as the first Director of the Aviation Division of the State Improvement Commission from 1946 to 1949. He was also the publicity director for Orlando's Annual Airparty in 1935 and 1936. He served as an officer in the Florida Aviation Association and was an instructor of aeronautical courses at the University of Florida. Lazarus was interested in gliding and was chief of the Glider Project Unit in the Army Air Force in 1943. In 1951, he published "Wings in the Sun: The Annals of Aviation in Florida," Cobbs Florida Press, Orlando, Florida.

Summary:     This collection contains the papers of William C. Lazarus that include correspondence, monthly reports, photographs, and publications related to his work and interest in aviation. The bulk of these records date from his service as director of the Aviation Division of the State Improvement Commission.  The collection documents the airparties he publicized and includes brochures from Orlando, Tampa, and state-wide air cruises, correspondence and a news release. Photographs are of airplanes, airparties, clubs and classes, gliders, and airports. Included also are photographs from his "Wings in the Sun."
