Biographical/Historical:     John M. W. Davidson was born in 1801 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Around 1827, he and his new wife Mary Sylvester moved to Quincy (Gadsden County), Florida, to practice medicine. He was one of Quincy's first doctors, a founding elder of the Presbyterian Church, and with his wife, founded Quincy's first school. Davidson remained a distinguished citizen of Florida until his death in 1879.

Summary:     The collection contains Dr. John M.W. Davidson's volume of remedies and recipes to treat and cure various illnesses and diseases. The book, dated August 3, 1843, includes treatments for sicknesses, such as pneumonia and consumption, and recipes for laxatives, ointments, and expectorants.
