Biographical/Historical:     M.S. Elkin was an Auctioneer for Leon County and operated a livery stable in Tallahassee. Livery stables offered horses, teams and wagons for hire, and also offered temporary boarding for privately-owned horses.
Summary:     The collection contains ledgers for M.S. Elkin's livery stable in Tallahassee, Florida. The first volume is a day book that reflects the daily business from February 1860 through January 1862 and lists the customer's name, items purchased or services rendered, and amount due. The second volume is a ledger for various accounts from 1861 to 1864. Entries are organized by customer name and listed in the order in which the customer opened an account. They include the date, items purchased or services rendered, and amount due. The index for this ledger is for surnames A-G only.
