Biographical/Historical:     The Circulo Cubano de Tampa, or Cuban Club, began operations in the late 1800s and built its first clubhouse in 1902. Formed to enhance the social life for Tampa's Cuban community, the club supported numerous activities, including plays, dances, musicals and classes. In addition to the club's normal amenities of a dance hall and bar, members also had access to a pharmacy, library and offices. Club membership reached into the thousands, primarily families of Cuban descent; however, membership was not restricted to those of Cuban or Latin backgrounds. Medical benefits included consultation with one of three doctors on staff, hospitalization, medicine and ambulance service. Upon the death of a member, the club paid $33.00 toward funeral expenses.
Summary:     This collection contains a microfilm copy of membership records of the Circulo Cubano de Tampa, originally maintained in two loose-leaf volumes. The records provide member's name, age, nationality, dues, profession, marital status, date of entry into club and date of leaving (usually concurs with death date).
