The Whitakers owned a plantation about seven miles out of town on Centerville Road (later a part of Welaunee Plantation). Patriarch of the family, Eli Benton Whitaker married Martha Branch, daughter of John Branch, who established Live Oak Plantation north of Tallahassee. The Bradford and Branch families connected through the marriage of Lt. Col. John Branch to Rebecca Bradford.

Whitaker, news clippings, genealogies, and photographs relating to the histories of these families. Most of the records document the Whitaker family.
