Biographical/Historical:     Andrew D. Poppell was born in June 1894 in Perry, Florida. After joining the army in 1917, he was inducted into the Medical Reserve Corps on February 28, 1918. He advanced from private to sergeant and was honorably discharged on December 13, 1918. After World War I, he returned to Perry and began buying land in Taylor County, establishing the Econfina Land and Timber Company and the Poppell Corporation. He also ran a fish camp in the 1930s, which was used as a commissary for his saw mill. In 1940, Poppell tried to register his turpentine farm under the Naval Stores Conservation program.  He also served on a committee in 1940, working on a state cattle bill to divide the state into cattle districts under separate supervision.

Summary:     This collection contains the business and personal records of Andrew D. Poppell of Taylor County, Florida. It includes tax receipts, log tally sheets for lumber cut, business correspondence, personal correspondence, records of the lumber and turpentine business, and military records. These records primarily detail the land ownership and timber industry in Taylor County during this time. Most of the records date from 1930 to 1940.
