The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Association of School Librarians began as the School Library Section of the Florida Education Association in 1935. Four years later, the organization opened its membership to public librarians, then reverted in 1952 to accept only Florida Education Association members. The mission of this organization was to encourage growth among its members through study and participation in professional activities, improve school libraries in Florida, and cooperate with other educators to better education and library services.

    The Florida High School Library Council was organized in April 1950, its membership comprised of Florida high school students interested in library and audiovisual work. An executive board of officers and district representatives oversaw the council. Annual meetings were camps that included such activities as conferences, programs and recreation.
Summary:     The collection contains records from three separate but related organizations: the Florida Association of School Librarians, the Florida High School Library Council, the Florida Library Association. The records from the Florida Association of School Librarians contain committee and board meeting reports, correspondence, publications and organizational materials. There is also documentation of the Florida Association of School Librarians-Florida High School Library Council scholarship program.

    Records of the Florida High School Library Council include correspondence, district reports, expenditure lists, meeting notes, officer responsibilities, executive board meeting notes, newsletters and historical information. In addition, there are some miscellaneous files of the Florida Library Association.
